The province of Mendoza counts with reserves of copper, gold, silver, lead, zinc, manganese, iron, potassium, gypsum, barytine, bentonite, talc, aggregate and building rocks, among others. Raw materials to produce cement are also available in the province.

There are approximately 130 companies related to mining and its complementary services which generate around 21,000 jobs. This sector represents 7% of the province’s GGP (USD 1,000 million, 2012).

Note: Act 7722, passed on July 20th, 2007, forbids the use of chemical substances such as cyanide, mercury and sulphuric acid on metal mining activities. It also establishes that the Environmental Impact Declaration (DIA) for each project has to be ratified by the parliament of Mendoza.
